Message from Mayor Richetelli on Irene

Good afternoon. This is Mayor Jim Richetelli with important information for Milford residents as we continue to recover from the effects of Hurricane Irene. I know this is a difficult time for many people, particularly those who still don’t know when their electrical power will be restored.
Our major priority is the restoration of electricity to every resident. We have a United Illuminating Company representative with us at all times, and we are working with them to get as many people back on line as quickly as possible. At long last, UI today provided us with a restoration forecast. They predict that 2,500 more customers will be restored to power today; 1,250 more by Friday evening; and another 500 more by Saturday. If their forecast is correct, by Saturday evening 98% of Milford will have their electricity restored.
For those who still have no power, the City of Milford can help!
We will be distributing food and water for residents who are still without electrical power. Milford residents can pick up these commodities at any City firehouse from 7 p.m. through the night, and continuing through tomorrow, September 2nd while the supply lasts. I encourage all Milford residents to avail themselves of this assistance.
Residents who have concerns, questions or special needs may still call the City of Milford emergency operations center at 203-874-6782. While we unfortunately do not have specific information about when power will be restored to each home, we in the City of Milford remain committed to helping our residents through this difficult time.
Thank you.
