Jonathan Law High School Winter Guard Performs
MILFORD – The Jonathan Law High School Winter Guard will perform their award-winning show on Saturday, March 24th, when they host the MAC Winter Guard Home Show at Law. Seventeen color guard units from around the state and as far away as New York (see list below) will compete at JLHS as part of the 2011-12 competitive season.
The competition begins at approximately 5:00 p.m. at the school and continues throughout the evening; award presentation is expected around 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.00 for children under 10 years of age and for senior citizens. Proceeds from ticket sales go directly to the hosting school.
The Law team is hoping to encourage a high turnout at their show this weekend in order to make up the shortfall they experienced earlier this year, caused by the cancellation of their home event in October, due to a surprise snow storm.
The Jonathan Law Winterguard has had a phenomenal season, placing 1st or 2nd in every competition so far this year. Guard Director Pam Rossman and Asst. Guard Director Amanda Sanders are looking forward to this weekend’s Home Show and expect their team’s performance to be nothing short of spectacular. Team captains for the 2011-12 season are Rebecca Tobin, McKenna Staurovsky, and Brittany Muldowney.
A bevy of local VIPs are expected to present the awards on Saturday evening at the closing ceremony including State Rep. Kim Rose, State Senator Gayle Slossberg, and Mayor Benjamin Blake. Additional dignitaries include Principal Fran Thompson, Board of Ed members Susan Glennon, Beverley Pierson, James Maroney, and Tracy Casey.
The Winterguard team at Law receives a strong show of support by its very active parent group, the JLHS Band & Guard Parent Assoc., headed up this year by president Kathy Walker. The group works all year long to support the team and helps fund their events throughout the season.
The Musical Arts Conference (MAC) is an organization comprised of professional music educators whose mission is to encourage competition in the music field in the educational setting. Competitions are judged by a panel of juried music professionals with competing groups scrutinized on a variety of measures including timing, interpretation, synchronization, quality and musical performance.
