Carolina Fontes Paintings at Stratford Library for August in Exhibit Called 'Lighthouses'

Stratford Artist Carolina Fontes Shares Her Acrylic Paintings

"Lighthouses" is the August art exhibit at the Stratford Library.
Stratford artist Carolina Fontes will make her first library appearance with an original collection of acrylic paintings, organizers said in a statement.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be on display in the library's Main Lobby throughout the month of August, the statement said.
A self-taught artist, Fontes was born in Portugal on Madeira Island.
"She enjoys working with acrylic paints because the colors are bold and dry fast.  Her current series of paintings entitled "Lighthouses" came from a story she read about a young girl who helped her father rescue sailors from overturned boats near Lime Rock Light in Newport," the statement said.
"She developed a curiosity about the families who call lighthouses their homes and became fascinated about how they survived in small, isolated but very unique places.  Fontes will include a short background story with each lighthouse painting in the library exhibit."
 Viewing hours for "Lighthouses" are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m Friday and Saturday.
The art exhibit will continue through  August 31 at the Stratford Library, 2203 Main St.
