United Way of Milford and ShopRite Team Up

For the fifth consecutive year, the United Way of Milford is pleased to announce United Way Month at ShopRite, a collaborative effort with the local grocery store to raise awareness of and support for the work the United Way does within the Milford community. Gary Johnson, president of the United Way of Milford, would like to especially thank Stonemar Properties, owner of the Milford Plaza Center, and Harry Garafalo, owner of ShopRite in Milford, for their continued support as the United Way looks to realize its one million dollar goal in 2011.

Beginning Saturday, July 2, and continuing through the end of the month, United Way volunteers will be outside ShopRite selling hot dogs and soda every Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. Donations can also be made at the register in $1 and $3 increments. Two baskets of Energizer products, generously donated by Schick, will be raffled off, as well as United Way shirts. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the United Way to further its mission of strengthening families, nurturing children, and meeting critical needs within the community.

The 2010 United Way Month at ShopRite was the most successful to date, raising $10,000 to benefit the 21 partner agencies and 30 programs that fall under the community-based organization’s umbrella. Volunteers from these groups will also be on hand to share their support of the United Way’s work in the community. Says Garafalo, “The United Way of Milford and their partner agencies continue to provide the city with essential services improving the quality of life for many residents. Our annual fundraiser heightens the community awareness of all the programs that encompass the United Way while providing resources to help them to achieve their goals.”
