City resident wins award at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

Midshipman Daniel Diotalevi of Milford, a junior at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, recently received the O’Gara Award.
Diotalevi was chosen for the $750 prize based on how he raised his grade point average the most over the previous year. Cash awards are presented to midshipmen from each major, with a bonus award made to the person with the highest increase. The O’Gara Awards are sponsored through the generosity of the late William R. O’Gara, class of 1950, and his wife, Arlyne, who continues to support the academy’s academic support and scholar programs.
Diotalevi is majoring in marine engineering and shipyard management at the federal maritime academy in Kings Point, NY.
The academy, which trains young men and women from across the nation for careers in the merchant marine and transportation industry, is operated by the Maritime Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
